What is Colour Therapy?
We have always used colour to express or affect emotion. Think about your favourite colour: why do you like it? Now think about your least favourite colour: what emotions do you associate with this colour?
Ancient civilisations began experimenting with colour thousands of years ago. Lending inspiration from nature, people used colour as a form of healing. Colour is light and energy. We see it because it reflects and refracts through all kinds of particles, molecules and objects.
Light or the lack thereof, affects us in various ways. Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, for example causes dis-ease during winter.
Colour therapy and healing is also known as chromotherapy or light therapy. Each colour holds a specific frequency and vibration. Therapists of colour healing observe how these frequencies affect the energy within the body, influence emotions and support the body in healing.
The aura or energy field around the body contains different layers of light. Knowing the colours of your aura helps you better understand the balance in the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical levels of your being.
What does it do?
Colour healing is a non-invasive therapy. Everything in nature is here for a purpose and colour is no exception. This complementary therapy is an alternative to conventional medicine.
The energy relating to each spectrum of colour resonates with the energy of the seven main chakras or energy centres of the body. These energy centres are like a set of cogs or wheels in the clock or engine that is the body. We can achieve wellbeing through a balance of these energies. Colour energy helps to re-balance these centres when the appropriate colour is applied to the body.
